About Mahzzo’t

Mahzzo’t is an English transliteration of an ancient Hebrew phrase.  This particular form can be found in Genesis 3.13, in God’s address to the woman in the garden.  Not only are there various forms of this phrase, there are also a number of possible translations.  Most basically, it means “what is this?”  However, there is a bit more meaning that those three English words do not capture.  A more common contemporary phrase that may hope to encapsulate this expression might be, “What the ____ (insert your favorite four letter word here) is this!?”  It is this response, I believe, that God often mutters at my inquiries about the metanarrative of the Hebrew Bible and all of scripture.  I will question orthodoxy, hierarchy and authority here.  I will cling to subversion, inquisitiveness, reformation, restoration and redemption.  Although, I will do all of these things mindful of the divine “MAHZZO’T!?” that will surely follow.  I welcome your comments, corrections and conversations.
